In most houses, the laundry room is often the most overused space in the home.  It’s a dumping ground for dirty clothes, cleaning supplies, craft supplies and anything else we don’t want in eye sight in the rest of our home.  So why would we enjoy spending time in there?  Take a look at some of our favorite bright and cheery laundry rooms.  They may change your mind about getting the laundry done and this room could become your new favorite “hiding spot” for some quiet time.

That’s So Clever

Do you ever see an idea and wonder, “why didn’t I think of that?”  This series of posts are dedicated to just that – useful information for around your home.  If you would like to send us some of yours, we’d love to choose the best and add them to our blog.

Today we are going to look at helpful ways to hang artwork on the wall!

One way to hang a picture frame or cabinet with two eye holes is to put tape on the back to measure between the holes.  Then place the tape on the wall and make your nail holes on each end of the tape.  It’s easy to place a level on the top line of this tape to make sure it’s hanging straight the first time.

Another great idea that really works, is to put a screw in the end of a ruler.  Place the picture wire over that screw, hold up the picture in place where you would like it on the wall, press the ruler in to make the indent of where you will need to put the screw or nail in the wall.  Voila!  Perfect placement with only one hole in the wall!

As designers, taking an inspiration and making the designs a reality usually happens at our desks.  No matter the amount of time you spend working at your home or office desk, why not have a beautiful and organized place to work?  This is what inspires us…

We love the look and feel of this office –

so sophisticated and serene.

It’s all about organization in this home office.  Using like-colored baskets in

cubicles or book shelves is a great way to contain and organize clutter.

Try a small kitchen table with a piece of glass on top for a desk – beautiful!

Adding a skirt to a simple table can be a great, inexpensive alternative

to a desk.  It also hides cords and storage underneath.

Short on space? We love these ideas of transforming a closet in to an office space.  Wouldn’t it be

great to be able to shut the doors at the end of your work and “return” to home?

Earlier this week on our Urban ID blog, we talked about the backyard oasis.  Today, let’s move to the front and add some curb appeal and value to your home.   Altering the front of your home for great curb appeal doesn’t have to be daunting.  Most tasks can be done in a day or weekend.  Here are some quick points of action for  a beautiful front entrance ~

* Give your home some dimension by adding a bold, contrasting color to your front door

* Add a fresh coat of paint on the house and trim

* Create symmetry with plants and trees on either side of your door and in the yard

* Install efficient lighting to guide you into the home

* Add an arbor or fence

* A water feature is not only pleasing to the eye, but soothing as well

* Mount window boxes or shutters that draw the eye to the front of the house

* Spruce up your driveway and walkway by keeping a clean edge detail, power wash the brick or concrete and add some perimeter plants and flowers

Get out there.  Your neighbors are waiting!

Most people love an open concept home, but sometimes it can pose a certain organizational challenge. There is a need for division of space and privacy, while maintaining flexibility and a sense of openness.  Here are some creative room dividers that will keep things open and airy while defining the room.
