Retreat To A Kitchen Island

You don’t have to be a gourmet cook to need more counter and storage space in your kitchen.  The island is the center piece of your space, serving as a prep station, storage area, gathering place, cook space, just to name a few.  With so many jobs that the kitchen island is a part of, there is no reason that function cannot meet style.  And whatever your style may be, there is something for everyone (and every home).  Here are just a few that we fancy!

COLOR CRUSH – Royal Blue

Whether it is on your walls, a rug or a smashing throw pillow, royal blue is a rich blast of color that can be both elegant and playful.  Blue communicates a certain confidence and calming quality when used in the right proportions.  A very versatile color, it can be paired with either a soft neutral or a vibrant color, and is at home in both contemporary and traditional settings.

STYLE BOARD – Exposing the Brick

We’re having “brick envy” here at Urban I.D.  Exposed brick used in the factory and warehouse conversions in Portland, is one of the most beautiful design features of the lofts we see around us every day.  Even though brick is enjoying a design trend moment, it is one of those timeless components in interior design.  You may be lucky enough to live in an older home that was born with an original brick wall or two. If not, there are many new and very real looking brick veneers you can add to a wall or columns to give you that organic and earthy quality, adding architectural interest and warmth to your home.

The brick immediately draws your eye and commands the room.  What are your thoughts, love brick or can live without it?

Your foyer should be an inviting first glimpse into your home. Today we are going to take a look at some beautifully “friendly” foyers that would invite any one in to stay a while.

The mirrors, lamps and greenery widen this long, narrow space.
