In most houses, the laundry room is often the most overused space in the home.  It’s a dumping ground for dirty clothes, cleaning supplies, craft supplies and anything else we don’t want in eye sight in the rest of our home.  So why would we enjoy spending time in there?  Take a look at some of our favorite bright and cheery laundry rooms.  They may change your mind about getting the laundry done and this room could become your new favorite “hiding spot” for some quiet time.

COLOR CRUSH – Emerald Green

Everything about emerald green, Pantone’s 2013 color of the year, says invigorating and reviving.  It’s the color of one of the world’s most majestic jewels.  And as the hue of spring, it’s the freshness of a new day.  It’s powerful, grounded, manly even.  Most importantly, however, there isn’t much of the shade in our closets, on our walls, or atop our kitchen counters.  So that makes emerald, with all of its rich connotations, its earthy vibe, and its cool mood a natural choice for today’s top color.

Spring is here and it’s time for us to have some fun outdoors.  A water feature in your outdoor space can soothe the spirit and help you relax, while adding a feature element to your landscape.  We found a great tutorial for a DIY Recirculating Water Fountain from Tatertots and Jello that looks beautiful and easy enough to do!

Famous for being in log cabins, post and beam design is becoming more and more popular in the modern home.  Changing the stereotype of the design that has been around for ages has not been easy.  However, after taking a look at these homes, we were quick to fall in love with this look.  What is your vote?

That’s So Clever

Do you ever see an idea and wonder, “why didn’t I think of that?”  We are starting a new series of posts that are dedicated to just that – useful information for around your home.  If you would like to send us some of yours, we’d love to choose the best and add them to our blog.

Today we are going to look at helpful ways to hang artwork on the wall!

One way to hang a picture frame or cabinet with two eye holes is to put tape on the back to measure between the holes.  Then place the tape on the wall and make your nail holes on each end of the tape.  It’s easy to place a level on the top line of this tape to make sure it’s hanging straight the first time.

Another great idea that really works, is to put a screw in the end of a ruler.  Place the picture wire over that screw, hold up the picture in place where you would like it on the wall, press the ruler in to make the indent of where you will need to put the screw or nail in the wall.  Voila!  Perfect placement with only one hole in the wall!
