Retreat To A Kitchen Island

You don’t have to be a gourmet cook to need more counter and storage space in your kitchen.  The island is the center piece of your space, serving as a prep station, storage area, gathering place, cook space, just to name a few.  With so many jobs that the kitchen island is a part of, there is no reason that function cannot meet style.  And whatever your style may be, there is something for everyone (and every home).  Here are just a few that we fancy!

Famous for being in log cabins, post and beam design is becoming more and more popular in the modern home.  Changing the stereotype of the design that has been around for ages has not been easy.  However, after taking a look at these homes, we were quick to fall in love with this look.  What is your vote?

Depending on the shade, orange can add a variety of effects to your room.  A bright hue can add liveliness and vibrancy to a space, while a deeper shade like pumpkin, can add softness and warmth.  Which ever way you go, orange is a hot trending color and a beautiful way to change the look of any room.

STYLE BOARD – Lovely Laundry Rooms

Posted by urbanid on Monday, October 6, 2014

In most houses, the laundry room is often the most overused space in the home.  It’s a dumping ground for dirty clothes, cleaning supplies, craft supplies and anything else we don’t want in eye sight in the rest of our home.  So why would we enjoy spending time in there?  Take a look at some of our favorite bright and cheery laundry rooms.  They may change your mind about getting the laundry done and this room could become your new favorite “hiding spot” for some quiet time.

That’s So Clever

Do you ever see an idea and wonder, “why didn’t I think of that?”  This series of posts are dedicated to just that – useful information for around your home.  If you would like to send us some of yours, we’d love to choose the best and add them to our blog.

Today we are going to look at helpful ways to hang artwork on the wall!

One way to hang a picture frame or cabinet with two eye holes is to put tape on the back to measure between the holes.  Then place the tape on the wall and make your nail holes on each end of the tape.  It’s easy to place a level on the top line of this tape to make sure it’s hanging straight the first time.

Another great idea that really works, is to put a screw in the end of a ruler.  Place the picture wire over that screw, hold up the picture in place where you would like it on the wall, press the ruler in to make the indent of where you will need to put the screw or nail in the wall.  Voila!  Perfect placement with only one hole in the wall!

As designers, taking an inspiration and making the designs a reality usually happens at our desks.  No matter the amount of time you spend working at your home or office desk, why not have a beautiful and organized place to work?  This is what inspires us…

We love the look and feel of this office –

so sophisticated and serene.

It’s all about organization in this home office.  Using like-colored baskets in

cubicles or book shelves is a great way to contain and organize clutter.

Adding a skirt to a simple table can be a great, inexpensive alternative

to a desk.  It also hides cords and storage underneath.

Short on space? We love these ideas of transforming a closet in to an office space.  Wouldn’t it be

great to be able to shut the doors at the end of your work and “return” to home?
